Even after the independence movements that brought autonomy to Arab states previously under colonial rule, the endemic violence of tyranny and revolution continued. The domestic violence that accompanied this civil strife was chronicled by feminist writers linking male violence on the frontier and at home. This article analyzes three stories of magical realism that emphasize the struggle against Western hegemony and the feeling of being caught between cultures.
